What is Music Durham?

Music Durham steers all musical activity at Durham University. This includes ensembles, concerts, masterclasses and socials. Who can join Music Durham? Anyone! There are different options for students and non-students.

Why should you join Music Durham? Becoming a member of Music Durham gives you the chance to play in all of our ensembles, as well as exciting solo and chamber performance opportunities. You get access to the fantastic weekly emails about musical opportunities and a great social community.

Searching for the Heart of Land of Oak & Iron

Immerse yourself in heritage as Land of Oak & Iron is brought to life through drama, music and song by the local people who share our passion for this special place.

Folklore of the forest, dreams of the Derwent, courage of our communities. Join us on a roller coaster through time. ‘Searching for the Heart of the Land of Oak & Iron’ is a new play, which explores the past, present and possibly the future of our vibrant heritage.

  • High Spen Blue Diamonds traditional rapper sword dance team
  • Kiddar's Luck songs from Tommy Armstrong the Pitman Poet
  • Bill Elliott of the Elliott's of Birtley mining songs from the region

Searching for the Heart of Land of Oak & Iron has been created by Bex Mather, Theatre Maker, Musician and Co-Director at Harmony Associates with Highfield Middle School, Prudhoe and Blackhall Mill Youth and Community Theatre Groups.
