Our VCS Alliance workers have been collating information on Activities across their 4 areas. below are updates with the current information for that area with more to follow!

Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Newton Aycliffe and Wheatley hill 

Maths and English Wheatley Hill Family Centre 
Wheatley hill Family centre were due to start maths and English courses today but due to no parents coming along it may get cancelled. If you have any parents interested please contact Diane Swaddle Development and Engagement Officer on number Direct line: 03000 266241 

Trimdon Village hall –New Youth Club 
New youth club 8-19 years starting on 5th October Every Friday night, various activities –See attached poster. 

Keep warm and healthy course - St Johns Church Shildon beginning 8th October at 10am To book a place please contact 01388417600. PLEASE NOTE - you must have a child aged 19 or under to sign up-See attached poster. 

Us Girls Ferry Hill sports and education centre Us Girls is an initiative to engage girls in sport allowed girls aged 11-14 to try out some new sporting activities and help plan and organise their own after school clubs. The girls got to choose which sports they wanted to do and when their club should take place. These clubs will be ran by a sport specific coach and be based around FUN.FITNESS.FRIENDS. So the girls will get to take part in activities that they enjoy in a fun and friendly environment –See attached poster.

Parent/Carer Support Groups in Co. Durham I have attached the list of available Parent and Carer Support Groups around the County, Please feel free to print and give to Parents and Carers

Grandparents Plus support group I have attached a list of support groups in the county that support Grandparents who are looking after family members through Kinship care. The contact details for each area can be found under group venue details. 

Cornerstones…free training … 
Cornerstones in Chester-Le-Street are hosting the following free training courses from September here at Cornerstones Centre for the Community. They are all level NVQ level 2 and the criteria and dates are as follows. Criteria: 19+ unemployed or economically inactive, which includes volunteers, living in the Durham area. All courses are 9.30-3.30pm. Dawdon youth and Community centre – *****Free driving lessons and test***** 
Dawdon Youth and community centre are offering 15 hours free driving lessons, provisional and theory paid for. To be eligible for this people must be 20+, unemployed or on a low income working 16 hours or less a week and also complete a 16/17 day course on either Maths/English or extended employability. East Durham Trust Health and Wellbeing course
East Durham Trust have a Health and wellbeing course starting Friday 14th September 10:00-13:00 for three weeks, the course allows learners to take part in activities that are focused on improving health and wellbeing, aiming to make you look and feel good. The course is free for anyone aged 19+ (for more information please find attached leaflet) Yes you can! East Durham Trust have a work preparation course running for 6 weeks starting Friday 14th September 09:30-12:30, the course includes activities that will allow the learner to gain employability skills such as, teambuilding, confidence building, building a better you and how you can help yourself or others and overcoming barriers (for contact details please find information attached

Family arts and crafts
East Durham Trust have a family arts and crafts session running for 8 weeks starting Tuesday 11th September 15:30-18:00, the sessions are designed to allow the parent/carer to take part in some arts and crafts with their child/ren (please see poster attached

Business Admin course
County Durham Housing Group are running a Get Into Business Administration Course on the 17th of September for 5 days at Horden Family centre An intensive free training course designed to provide the skills needed to work in business administration roles is being offered to County Durham residents. The course will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day. (for more information please see attached information) Some of the attached items may take a little longer to load in, especially the photos ones

East Durham Trust
I have attached an information leaflet (social prescribing) that I thought you may all find useful, this gives you a little information on the different projects that they have running at the moment and what exactly they can do to support families. I have also attached the most up to date FEED referral form for food parcels collected from East Durham Trust 

Horden Salvation Army 
I have attached information around activities taking place at Horden Salvation Army, please note KA that takes place on a Thursday evening is a youth session. The next messy church is taking place on Friday 14th September from 3:15pm. Sherburn Hill Salvation Army Sherburn Hill Salvation Army have a kids club taking place every Sunday at 3:30pm

Healthworks Easington
The Healthworks at Easington are offering a homework group for adults and children, the sessions are 50p per person and this includes a teatime meal. (please see attached for information)

Home on The Range young peoples Cree The Young peoples CREE runs Saturday morning 10-12 noon. The group predominantly choose to take part in horse/yard duties etc. However the activities are very much group orientated and they can choose what they would like to take part in for example arts/crafts , bakery/cooking, creative writing and many more. Home Group Drop ins Advice on tenancy and finances A reminder of the Home group drop –ins in the Bishop Auckland Area. See attachment for details. Home Group are also delivering pop up drop- ins Starting Thursday 6th September 2-4pm at the Ironworks Tow Law and every other week. Also at Stanhope Community Centre starting Thursday 13th September 2-4pm and every alternate week
