 Spotlight On !!!

Each week we will highlight an event, project or important piece of work from around Durham. If you have information that it is vital to share, get in touch and we will publicise it.

County Durham Young Persons Portal **New**

The Mission Statement of the portal is:

‘To be the preferred digital reference point for children and young people in County Durham meeting their advice and information needs across a range of subject matters’

The portal will provide a single online landing space for children and young people across the County, offering a range of information that is current, contemporary, innovative and aligned to young people’s interests and needs.  It is proposed that the portal consists of a range of service provider information, as well as information of a more social nature, such as local news, what’s on, discussion forums etc.  Initial proposals indicate that the portal will host the following information, although this will be further developed following consultation and engagement with children and young people:

Advice and Information on health, safety, schools, employment and education etc.

A directory of services across County Durham. / Information on available activities

Signposting to other services e.g. DurhamWorks, Families Information Service, Locate, Student App, Help4Teens etc.

It is envisaged that the introduction of the portal can help children and young people to receive advice, support and information, at the time that suits them, in a way that meets their needs.

In order for the portal to appeal to young people it is essential that it is developed with their involvement. It would be a great help if you could share the attached information with children and young people in your organisation/group and discuss the questions with them before returning the feedback to the Cornforth Partnership using the feedback form provided. I appreciate the timescales to carry this out may be different for each organisation

Aligned to this engagement is the Student Voice Survey, which will be undertaken in 22 secondary schools, and 138 primary schools across County Durham.

A £25 Amazon voucher will be offered as a prize for completing the survey  (ww.tellus.me) for one young person, who will be drawn at the end of the survey, as an incentive to encourage maximum participation.

There is an opportunity for children and young people to become more actively involved in the development and content of the portal. If any of the children and young people that  you work with would be keen on getting more involved as the project progresses, please advise them to fill their details in at the bottom of the online feedback form. Their personal details will be held in the strictest of confidence.
