Role purpose:  The post holder will be part of the advocacy team at Citizens Advice County Durham and will contribute to the provision of advocacy support to people with a learning disability.
 
Key work areas and tasks:  This role will involve extensive travel across County Durham.   The advocate will work on both an instructed and non-instructed basis and support people with learning disabilities to speak up for themselves, be listened to and can exercise real choice and control in their lives. The post holder will ensure that people with learning disabilities are actively involved in their own health and social care and will empower people with learning disabilities who may lack support to express their views.

Care and Cafe Support Worker **Current**

Minimum of 12 hours per week, there will be times when this post is required to work full time to cover for annual leave.
Minimum wage in the first instance

The Wait ’er while café is a busy, well-established and much loved community café based in Bullion Hall Community Centre open Monday –Friday from approx. 9am to 2.30pm.

The café is staffed by adults with learning difficulties who are supported to develop new skills, build self-confidence and make long term friendships in this safe and supportive environment. The postholder will work a minimum of 3 hours per day at peak café opening times. (10.30am-1.30pm, Tuesday-Friday). However the postholder must be flexible enough to work additional hours in a coordinator role to cover for the annual leave, (a minimum of 25 days per year) sickness or training days of our existing care café coordinator.
On a day to day basis the post holder will provide support to the full time café care coordinator to (a) supervise the team of service users, who have medium level support needs (maximum of 4 service users per day),(b) operate the Wait ’er While community café within Bullion Hall, preparing and serving meals and other kitchen tasks  (c) free up the café care coordinator to provide more dedicated time to service users to support them through a learning and accreditation process that will evidence their skills and experience in areas such as food hygiene, health and safety and meal preparation.
The post holder will ensure that the service users’ health and wellbeing is at the very heart of the day to day operations and longer term developments.
