Community Christmas Lunch**New**
County Durham’s Wellbeing for Life service have organised a Community Christmas Lunch at Consett Rugby Club on Friday15 December for local clients who need a bit of a boost with some good company at this time of year.
Participants will get to enjoy Christmas dinner, games, Bingo and Lingo, coffee and mince pies with some nice company and festive singing.
Being able to get out and about and connect with other people is often much harder than it seems and this can become more unpleasant at Christmas. Social isolation is a real problem for many people in our community and the Wellbeing for Life service helps to tackle some of these issues.
The Wellbeing for Life service provides support to people to live well in County Durham, by helping to address the factors which influence their health and build their capacity to be independent, resilient and maintain good health for themselves and those around them.
Wellbeing for Life staff work with individuals on a 1-1 basis and in groups to recognise the issues that are affecting their wellbeing and help them make positive changes.
Michelle Gibson, Wellbeing for Life Co-ordinator (North Durham Hub) said “After the success of the Christmas Meal last year held at PACT House in Stanley we wanted to repeat this on a larger scale. The feedback was so positive from clients that attended, saying they all had a wonderful day and really valued getting out and meeting some new people.”
One client who attended last year said “Thank you to the Wellbeing for Life staff and volunteers for going the extra mile to organise the event. It takes a lot of planning; however it is worth when you see how much everyone enjoys the day.
The service provides a vital link into the community to those who can be socially isolated because of restricted mobility, bereavement or their family and friends don’t live close by. Health trainers encourage people to get out and about - even if it's just to the end of the garden - and to stay active.”
Evidence suggests that those with strong social and community networks are more likely to be healthier, happier and live longer.
